Indian dresses in office

Almost in all IT companies in India, dresses like churidars, sarees are allowed, and in these dresses there is so much scope to experiment with. There are so many options available, churidars, salwars, patiala, semi patiala, Kurtas with leggings etc etc, but again, giving them a professional look, so many girls go wrong on that front. There are a few things, which we need to take care of while wearing traditional dresses to office.

  • Material: So many girls go wrong selecting material for traditional dresses. The best material to go for while selecting dresses for office wear would be cotton. It's so comfortable. Even Georgette, chiffon also look nice. In fact, my favorite traditional dress would be cotton dress with chiffon stole. The materials which should be avoided completely are synthetic materials, they look so tacky. And any shiny material like satin, silk, better to be avoided. Definitely you don't want to look like you just walked out a party.
  • Color: Best choice would be to go for light pastel shades. Go for natural colors, avoid anything bright, and avoid anything with golden or silver ghota, except when its too subtle. If you are going for different shades or contrasting colors, make sure colors go easy on eyes. Any thing too bright should be avoided at all costs. You don't want to blind your colleagues with your choice of clothes. And yes people do talk about what you are wearing. A lot.
  • Embroidery:  99% of the time an indian dress is incomplete without embroidery. When going for embroidery, avoid golden/ silver embroidery and go for small motifs instead of bigger ones. Again embroidery can make a dress look classy or trashy, so be very careful
  • Prints: Go for smaller prints, bigger prints distract way too much and more often than not they look tacky.
Design:
So many girls, I've seen following latest trend of teaming anarkali kurta or frock kurta with leggings blindly like Deepika padukone did in "Love aaj kal". But it looks good on taller and slimmer girls. Short women should avoid it, it makes them look even shorter and bubbled up. Go for a classic cut, that looks so classy and professional.
The look which I love is, knee length kurta with leggings, paired with kitten heels.

Fit:
If possible, get all your churidars tailored to your size. If buying readymade kurtas, buy a size that fits you, not 3 size bigger or smaller. I've seen many women wearing kurtas which are like 5 times bigger than their size. They don't do any justice to you or your look, instead make you look shabby. And this is not definitely what we want to look like in office, isn't it? When going for churidars, make sure, they are not too loose.  Go for leggings, they are the "in" thing these days, but make sure, your kurta is not too short. Leggings with very short kurtas(any kurta which is 4-5 inch above the knee) look very odd in office.

I guess that's it for today, if am missing something, will definitely add it in next blog.
