I have been in IT industry for over 7 year now and in these 7 years have seen such disasters in office. Where do I start from. There are times, when I felt like there were people who just woke up and realized that they got late for office, brushed their teeth and left for office, then there were times, when it looked like, this girl wanted to go for grocery shopping and ended up in office. Then there are wannabes, who try just too hard to look classy but end up looking trashy.
Most of the IT companies, infact most of the companies have policies for their employees, on how they should dress, be it formal dressing, casual or business casual dressing, and even though people follow these policies(technically) still end up looking frumpy. There are guidelines, but when it comes to female employees, these guidelines are very very relaxed, and they misuse those guidelines thoroughly to look the worst they can. In my first blog, I will start with basic guidelines on how should we dress for office. Trust me, it doesnt take a lot of money or time, you just need to be aware, aware of a few things, which we are going to discuss.

- The very first thing, you should be aware of is that, You are going to "office", not grocery shop, not on a picnic and definitely not going to a wedding. Your dress should reflect professionalism, that you are here to work.
- Clothes should fit you, fit you properly. I have seen so many girls wearing dresses which are two three sizes bigger than their actual size, specially churidars. Just because churidars are allowed in office, doesn't mean you can wear all kind of churidars. Make sure, atleast it fits you properly. it's not too loose or too tight(yes, that happens too, very frequently, girls take out their dress which they used to wear 6-7 year back, when they used to be much slimmer)
- Please, please, please don't wear your party wear blingy dresses to office, just because they are too old fashioned to be worn in parties or you have worn them way too many times in parties but still want to utilize them.
- On casual fridays, over sized tshirts with your boyfriend/husband's jeans and sport shoes are not cool at all. Please do shop in women's section for tshirts and jeans(yes it might be news for a few that jeans are different for men and women)
- Too much of jewelry it might look classy in a party or may be at your home, but it definitely doesnt look classy in office. What are you trying to show off and whom?? Please, please, please keep it minimal.
- When buying dresses, buy according to your body type(will be blogging on it later).
- A few tips for wannabes also, experiment with clothes but be subtle, atleast make sure, your dress does adhere to your office dress policy. I remember in my first company, I saw a girl wearing sequined skirt in office, just because it was friday. Please it is office, not your friend's birthday party.
